About CCSACB
The CCSACB was founded in the Biology Centre AS CR, v. v. i. – Institute of Soil Biology in 2007 and serve as a depository for cultures of soil actinomycetes. Most of the cultures belong to genus Streptomyces – order Streptomycineae/Streptomycetaceae. The cultures can be used for research, industrial applications, education and general scientific interest. It is basis for screening of strains possessing important secondary metabolites/metabolic activities. The major activity of the CCSACB is preserving actinomycetes which were isolated from soil and sediments of some unique habitats (caves, bat guano, glacial forefield, dead bees, Miocene and town sediments, spoil of brown coal colliery substrates etc.). CCSACB offers strains of actinomycetes in Catalogue of cultures. CCSACB was mainly supported from financial sources of the project reg. no 2B06154, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (2006-2011, principal researcher Ing. Miroslav Petříček, PhD.).
Main functions of CCSACB
- to collect, maintain and preserve authentic cultures of actinomycetes which were isolated from different habitats including mainly soils, sediments etc.
- to supply cultures worldwide
- to provide information on actinomycetes in the collection by publishing catalogue
